Scottish Female Saints

Scotland a strong history of religious figure heads. In this article we will look at who are some of the most famous Scottish female saints.

Saint Margaret of Scotland

One of the better known Scottish female saints, Margaret of Scotland was revered for her piety and strict Roman Catholic followings. In 1250 she was canonized by Pope Innocent IV and became a saint.

Saint Oda

Oda was born in Scotland in 680AD. She was born blind and because of this her father sent her on a pilgrimage in an attempt to cure her blindness. While Oda was praying at Saint Lambert’s grave she regained her sight. She took this as a sign and returned to Scotland to become a nun and dedicate her life to God.

Saint Teneu

Teneu was a Brittonic princess of the kingdom of Gododdin around the 6th century AD. She and her son, Saint Kentigern, are considered co-patrons of the city of Glasgow. She suffered a difficult life; and after being set adrift on the Firth of Forth, she was given shelter at Saint Serf. There she gave birth to and raised her son who also became canonized.

Saint Triduana

One of the lesser known Scottish female saints. Though it is unknown when she lived, it is estimate to be between 300-700AD. Accounts have mentioned that a visit to her grave is likely to help restore eyesight.
