Meaning and Origin of the Name Christy
The meaning of Christy originally comes from the masculine Greek, Christos meaning ‘anointed one,’ and the feminine Greek Christiana meaning ‘follower of Christ.’
While there were certainly Latin versions of the name, the first recorded instance of Christie didn’t appear in Italy until the early 1200s. Followed shortly by Christy appearing in Ireland in the mid-1300s. That is a long way for the name to travel in a short period. This seems to indicate widespread usage of the name that went unrecorded or didn’t survive history.
